Jukebox 92-point-7 is saluting Todd Storz, the father of Top 40 radio on May 6, the anniversary of his birth. Todd Storz came up with the idea of playing the same songs all day long, with no other programs, features or interruptions. In August of 1951, K-O-W-H in Omaha became the first all current hits station. W-T-I-X in New Orleans was the first station to broadcast a Top 40 show back in 1952. In 1954, W-H-B in Kansas City became the first station in the country to play Top 40 music 24 hours a day. His other stations included W-D-G-Y, Minneapolis-St. Paul, K-O-M-A, Oklahoma City, W-Q-A-M in Miami and K-X-O-K, St. Louis. His stations were the most listened-to and most profitable radio group in the United States in the early to mid 1960's. Although Todd died in 1964, his group of A-M only stations continued to be successful well into the 70's. You can find more information about Todd Storz on Wikipedia.
